I didn't want to wait for days, so I did all those troubleshooting steps at once along with deleting the local save game and reinstalling battlefront 2. Opening a crate still shuts down my xbox.

While I hesitate to call this solved after opening only one crate, I was able to open one today without my xbox shutting off. I'll let you know how the weekend goes.
EDIT: Whatever magic there was yesterday afternoon is gone. The daily crate shut off my xbox this morning (5/5).

Can I ask if you have any unopened crates on your account at the moment? Could you provide us with a screenshot?
I took a quick peek at your account and it looks like everything has been opened and you've received the content. The system doesn't show any errors, that's why I need a bit more information from you.

Today's daily crate shut off my xbox. Yesterday's did not.
I recently got the game, and this exact same thing is happening to me now. Were you able to fix the issue?
Still hasn't been fixed.
I uploaded a video of this problem to EA, gone very quiet now.
Just had an update from EA support, asking me to turn off my Xbox 360 cloud saves.

Sorry that I have to ask this, but did this solve your issue or are you being sarcastic? Sarcasm is so common around here because of their inability to fix most of the issues with this game, that I had to ask.
Lol! I must admit it didn't catch my eye, I'm not used to consoles anymore, so switching between the xbox 360 and xbox one passed unnoticed by me.
I see. Well, too bad neither here nor directly with support you could solve this issue. If we want to play Star Wars we're unfirtunately stuck with this annoying consumer experience that is this game.
New update out today, just downloaded it to see if it has fixed the problem.

I have tried to switch to 1080p the display mode of my xbox one x and the xbox one x still crashes :-/
still not solved, even after the August update, please fix this bug very soon, otherwise you'll get fewer players in the next BF games: this game is good but you've ruined it from the beginning with the crates system, and still not able to solve important bugs. Remember that plenty users won't send you a feedback and already make their own opinion about your game and the next one.
Now that crates are gone for good, I guess I should say for old times sake that I was able to claim my stashed crates without issue (apart from the time taken to open 40+ crates!) after the co-op patch.
And I guess this is the second time DICE has solved a BUG by removing Content from the game. The first being all those old Hero&Villain Star Cards that were substituted by Health on Kill cards in the past (and didn't come back when the team decided to substitute all HoK cards for other cards recently). Most of those were bugged, and I have footage showing all the issues, but they cleverly removed all those cards and thus didn't need to fix their effects ever again.
