Try to unplug your controllers, fully reboot your console and then plug them back in. If it does not work, check your game settings in game for your controller and see if something does not show right.
Turns out the solution was to turn off the touch pad in the settings menu. i think the problem is having thumbs swipe the touch pad, accidentally causing the abilities to activate.
