I have a similar issue but this happened after y changed batteries in the controller
I ahve a gen 9 XBox controller and i here is what happened
Batteries run out, i hace rechargable AA batteries so i swapped them for freshely charged ones. before the batteries ran out, the controller was working fine on wireless connection, buttons and everyithing was working proeprly wit the proper layout. After the batteries swap, the aly out got busted and the A button goes right, X byutton takes the menu, the Meany button takes teh function of the A button and this happens from the very start of the game in the main meno, gets worst in teh ahanger area and in game its impossible to play due to the kay functions being all messed up.
Nevertheless this happens on wireless connection. If i plug in the controller with the USB type C cable to the PC, then the buttons go back to normal and everhting works properly.
I've tried unlinking and linking back the controller to the pc like 4 times, repairing the game files, reinstalling the game, updated controller firmware. Still got the same problem which only seems ti get fixed while connected with a USB cable. all other games like Jedi Fallen order, Halo, GTA the controller works as it should.
I've got the Origin version of the game, if it has anything to do.
