ea play doesn't open

EA play app on desktop only works when it wants - keeps saying second plan services stopped and when I restart says the app is already up to date and nothing happens. I often have to restart the machine just to be able to get in and play. Clicking on the game app outside also doesn't work, keeps trying to open the app with no success. Tried to uninstall the app but it doesn't let me - probably wants me to uninstall the games first which takes ages to reinstall. Any ideas?
