Error 218 and Low Priority

How severe is your issue? Can play, but it's highly frustrating
What happens when the bug occurs? I get "error 218" and cannot join a game, and then have been assessed a leaver penalty that is inescapable, because I get booted from a ranked game every 3-4 fleet battles. I am extremely, extremely angry that I'm being penalized for the game booting me from lobbies before I can even join them.
What do you expect to see? I expect to not be penalized for "leaving" games that I never got to join in the first place. This is absolutely unacceptable.

What components were you using? Really wish I could pick them
Which customizations (if any) were you using? Boy if I could see ships before getting stuck in the leaver's queue, at least I'd be getting penalized for something real.
I honestly don't care if you fix the 218 error, it's only ever 3-4 games. I'm just furious that the game is telling me I'm a leaver for its own problems. Is it so difficult to identify this 218 code and remove low priority penalties for it? The game clearly knows the error happens.
