Hey pilots,
I'll flag this one with our team so we can check it out.
Since this issue appears to be connection related, can you please double-check connection related troubleshooting, first? It's explained > here <. It helps us figure out if it's an issue on our end, or related to your connection instead.
Thanks for reaching out to us!

@Straatford87 I think I have somewhat of an idea of what the problem is. I believe its a sort of connection time out. I saw someone comment that they moved their game from an HDD to an SSD and it loaded in time for them to not be kicked. So then I tried moving my game from a slower, bigger HDD to a smaller but faster one and it also fixed error 218. Whatever it is, the game isn't giving us enough time to load in, so it kicks us back to the main menu, and then it glitches in a sort of a loop where you cannot rejoin. Pretty sure it's not on our side, as it seems to be happening in consoles as well. Hope this helps!
For those reading this: A temporary solution is moving the game to your faster storage if you've got the space or the means to. If you load in faster, it will fix Error 218 (at least it did for me last night, 5/5 rounds)

This fix worked for me. After previously getting the 218 error every time, I am now able to join Ranked matches after moving the install folder to my SSD from an HDD. however introduced some slowdowns in the waiting rooms. However, I now am able to load into Ranked matches, and the actual games seemed to run the same. Still have the leavers penalty, but didn't affect my ability to get into a Ranked match quickly.

Im suspicious about it being storage hardware related; as I can load up maps in solo Fleet Battles vs AI in seconds. Its only when in multiplayer does it take ages to load the maps and kick me with the 218 error.

@Straatford87 Hello and thank you for the reply! I may have more information as to what is causing error code 218. I had Squadrons installed on an extended storage device on my ps4 for the first three days since launch. I was able to play a few games of fleet battles (I think around 5 or 6) with no disconnects. But Sunday night (central time US) I started getting this error code and got it three times in a row. I stopped playing and tried again the next day when I got the error code again. I looked up what some people had done and saw some people moved where the game was saved on their PCs and that seemed to solve the problem. So I decided to move my game from my extended storage to the main ps4 storage, and to my surprise that seems to have solved the error code. I was able to play 4 or 5 games yesterday (Monday) without getting this error code. This is still odd since the game was working perfectly fine the first few days on my extended storage, but the short term fix for me seems to be keeping the game saved on my main ps4 storage. If I get this error again, I will come back and comment, but it seems to have been fixed for now on my end.

Hey @Straatford87, my internet is super stable and I've been able to go on dogfights no problem. My specs are also under requirements (1660Ti, i7 9750H and etc) and I get this error everytime for Fleet Battles.
Might help: When I installer under my SSD instead of HDD, it worked out but, ya know, I don't have much space left there so I would like to have that on my HDD.
Any news on this bug?
tks!
