Freeze during target wheel tutorial

Had the same problem, a bug reported by others as well (see for example Reddit).  Tried several posted solutions: including alternating to keyboard, mapping keyboard keys to controller, changing the targeting wheel input to toggle from hold, reinstalling, restarting mission, etc.   Using an xbox controller, the only one that worked was a combination of 1)trying each of the targeting choices and 2)keep trying it until it works, even if you have tried all the choices.   A few minutes of this and it uncorked.  Very annoying.
