My difficulty with boosting is it should be exactly that ,an maneuver evasion auxiliary and not the base of the flight game. You cant play without it and all ships need it to get anything done. I have a totally different physic moderation in mind. Its based alot like this one in the boosting uses, by accelerating to get a maneuvering advantage. This would/ should be used as a natural in maneuvering and speed attribute balancing. So, your engine and class type will dictate your maneuvering, as well as speed. The boosting would/ should just be a countermeasure auxiliary component. This will free up a button for viewing or special operations like foils control or cruiser speeds. Yes,, that means ywing turret control or xwing sfoil control as well and Uwing and Bwing or even something for the support controls.
- 5 years agoBoosting and drifting/dead drifting actually makes this game closer to a space sim than any other star wars material. Asking for a "true star wars flight model" is asking for atmospheric flight in space. Aka not a space sim at all. - 5 years agoI get what you are saying, but this is a fantasy game and it has the attributes of fantasy dynamics. This can fit the know sciences in theories, but closely guided by known physics is a huge mistake. It will ruin the world from lightsabers to gravity engines and even light speed. This is more of a magical realm, and based of life force power. Think more harry potter than lord of the rings. But instead of magic words you need a focus of gifted physical make up. Like classes anyone can train to use be a jedi but still with only limited force use, even over time, as anyone can be a skilled pilot, but with limited abilities, even over time.
That being said,Im not actually basing the physics of reality but rather surrealism, meaning you can assure its real but cant account to the realistic factors. Like acceleration being the factor of advance maneuvering, though you can use the countermeasure modification engine booster, but its very limited like a force power. Standard acceleration thrusting should allow you to gain maneuvering in various ways, depending on how fast you are going and how good your engine is with acceleration. This is also impacted by your class maneuver drive engine and engine power setting with your payloads component weights, which these components dont impact your max speed as it does your base maneuvering, although your engine class does. As it does impact acceleration too of how long it takes to reach that max speed or even decelerate down speed. So, activating a Countermeasure booster engine overdrive (Turbo Booster) would allow you to decelerate and accelerate much faster than your engine can normally drive efficiently, while giving you a major maneuvering and Hyper Drifting (Dead Drifting) for a limited time before needed a cool down and recharge. This regaining boost operations can happen faster when you have overcharged engines and/ or using a lower speed ( so, max six to sixteen seconds depending on how much you use or class you are - only recharges the amount used, so the less you use the faster it recharges, but you cant use more till it recharges) on engine and class- like Barrage/ Support Class should take ten and Strike/ Assault Class should fifteen and Heavy Class should take twenty seconds. Yet, they can all reduce this by using lower speeds and on Engine Overcharge ). Atop all these changes every class speed needs to be increased naturally thirty percent, while acceleration will be decreased thirty percent and deceleration will drop by forty percent. This is because of the momentum factor.
If this frightens you you should know here that in the vain of star wars you are taking higher risks and under more pressure to maneuver under there acceleration thrusts factors. So you need more planning in your attacks and approaching. this will be the ride of your life. yes there will be unbelievable things done by players but they will be under their own discernment as star wars is all about consequence and danger.

- 5 years ago@ghostmonk000 That's just dumbing down the game by limiting boost to an auxiliary, and the other stuff increasing top speed and decreasing acceleration is not even Star Wars physics. Ace Combat is for stuff like that.- 5 years ago@CHAMMOND1992 I reconsidered it to be a Countermeasure that was inspired by another player. So a Turbo Booster Countermeasure, that can be cooled and recharged. This will not limit the other Auxiliary Components and is a perfect place, as you can use it to evade and maneuver as usual for a limited time, rather than doing special button holds. just turn it off or on, or just configure to hold down. It will recharge/ cool only the amount you use and you just use your normal control method. Also, this is not dumbing down by any stretch of the Dynamics of the game meta. It actually does the opposite and cuases you to run the correct measures of counter components as well as making use the throttle as you should since you need to use the correct speeds and gives you dead throttling that cuts your thrusters for drifting without the need for meaningless boosting( Nice sound fx though for it, but there can be exrta one for engine cuts while still using he same ones for the TurboBooster, which you can still cut during use for ,,DeadDrift,,).
