Hangar always uses stick zr (twist) axis for yaw even when not set

Product: Star Wars: Squadrons
Platform:Steam-PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
What is your gamertag/PSN ID/EA Account name? drminnericht
Are you playing in VR? Yes
Which VR Platform are you using? Steam VR
Which part of the game is the issue happening in? Hangar / Briefing Room
What were you doing when the bug occurred? Step by Step detail is helpful. It always happens in the hangar/briefing mode
Where did this issue occur? Please include menu name or in game location. Hanger/briefing mode
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) Always
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
How severe is your issue? Can play, but it's highly frustrating
What happens when the bug occurs? Even though the yaw is set to joystick x axis, it also accepts input from the joystick's twist (rudder) axis, even though that axis is not the one mapped to yaw. If I clear the mapping altogether for yaw in briefing/hangar controls, it still accepts input from the twist axis. This is a problem because that axis is broken on my joystick so it is constantly rotating the camera. I get dizzy trying to look in the right direction during hangar/briefings.
What do you expect to see? It shouldn't be using the joystick's twist axis to yaw when that's not what is mapped in controls.
Which ship were you playing? If not applicable, just answer "no" or "none." None
What components were you using? None
Which customizations (if any) were you using? None

Joystick RZ (twist) axis always turns the camera in the hangar, but it shouldn't. It's not the axis that is mapped to that.

  • I also have this problem. Is the Z-axis hardcoded to be yaw in the hanger/briefing room?

  • Agreed. All these hard menu joystick binding need to be made remappable from the game menu.

Did you check Documents\STAR WARS Squadrons\settings\ProfileOptions_profile_synced if you can change the binding there?

By the way, your Z-axis may not be broken. For some reason the game likes to uncalibrate the Z-axis (usually when it's not centered during loading screens). Unplugging and replugging the HOTAS usually fixes it for me for a while (it's only Squadrons that messes it up - but when it does it's messed up everywhere until you replug it, not even a reboot will help, but unplugging and replugging the USB will usdually fix it - sometimes it takes two unplugs - you can also do so while the game is running if it occurs intermediately).
