Lines and dots on screen, images shakes/jumps

We downloaded Star Wars Battlefront and there is something very off with the game display. The sound seems to be just fine, it is the video of the game that is the issue.

There are lines stretching out across the screen, dots appearing on screen and the picture jumps or "glitches" quickly. I have attached a few screen shots to show the problem. I have scanned the message board and have not found anyone else with a similar issue. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You have left off all possible diagnostic information, completely.

This guide applies to any game, NOT limited to just the DA: I game at all:

  • Hi @Axs9823Sxa2143

I agree with what @Gorath_the_Elder said on including your diagnostic information.

From what I can see in the images, are you playing on a console/TV?

If so, ensure the wire connections are secure. This means that you should make sure the HDMI cable running between the console and the TV is firmly connected on both ends.

If you are playing on a PC, ensure your graphics drivers are up to date by following the links below:

Following up.  No useful information, without which we must consider this to have been an abandoned message as soon as it was uploaded.

Thank you for the response and information. Clearly I am not familiar with the do's and don'ts of message board protocol! Hopefully I can provide all the information needed to address the problem.

The game is indeed being played on our TV, through an Xbox One console. I have checked the connections as well as the playability of the other games my son plays and everything appears to be plugged in and hooked up properly.

We purchased a physical game disk from a local GameStop store, loaded the game, immediately saw the lines/dots and called the store. They told us to uninstall the game and exchange the disk for another copy. Different disk, same problem. They suggested we try downloading the game rather than using a disk. On May the 4th, there was a promotion for the game that I took advantage of hoping a downloaded version would proved better results. Not the case. We have powered down and restarted the unit multiple times.

We have not had this issue with the lines, dots and flickering/jumpy screen with any other Xbox One game yet have had it with three different attempts with Star Wars Battlefront. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thank you again. I hope there is a remedy!

While it's good that the other games run fine, it may not be an ideal comparison if they run on a different game engine. If you have another game that runs on the Frostbite 3 engine, could you tell us how it runs? Examples: Battlefield 4 & Hardline, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, Need for Speed (the latest one), Dragon Age Inquisition.

Diagnosing a problem with a console can be tricky because they're supposed to just work. If this were on PC I would expect the lines to be caused by outdated software and the dots to be hardware failure. Make sure your Xbox has the latest software updates and that it's properly ventilated (free of dust).

I am not familiar with game engines, what they are, where they are or how they differ from game to game. Of the games you listed, my son has Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. It runs and plays just fine. GameStop thinks the issue may be with the console itself. It was a used system. Somehow, Star Wars: Battlefront might "not agree" with that particular console ... whatever that is supposed to mean. Does that explanation make any sense?

Yes, the game is being played on a console (Xbox One) and I verified that all the connections were secure. What I cannot understand is how this is the only game that had a distorted image like this. My son plays other games (Minecraft, Terraria, Titanfall, Farcry Primal, Plants v. Zombies) with no issues. We have tried two different store-bought disks as well as this downloaded version of the game, each with the same result. Is there some reason the console would have an issue with a specific game? Thank you again for the feedback.
