[PC] 100% CPU Usage on Menu Screens

I have a Core i7-4770 and the game runs smooth in-game but after the match the screen that shows the match results etc., causes the game to use 80-100% of my CPU and then after a minute or two returns to normal. It has this problem on the loading screens as well.

@wavyyj okay that is interesting for us to know. Could you additionally tell us the model of your videocard?

    Cheers

I had the same problems/symptoms, except my CPU usage was at 99% all the time (even after I quit the game!). Must be some kind of memory leak or infinite loop.

If you open your task manager, do you have lots of DsmUserTask.exe Tasks running?

If so: Kill the svchost.exe with the Process ID, that started the DsmUserTask.exe processes.

By running taskkill /F /IM DsmUserTask.exe /T you can kill al the DsmUserTasks.exe. It also shows you the Process ID of the Task that started those. In your task manager go to the details-tab, sort by PID, and search for the task with the corresponding PID - should be a svchost.exe task. Just kill it and you shoud be fine. CPU usage immediately went down to normal for me.

I experience this on a Radeon 7970 with the lates official catalyst drivers.

Game runs smooth but as soon as the round ends and the score-count is going it hogs all the cpu.

  • Is it all the time on menus or only when it's loading game assets?

For instance, when you first launch the game, assets will be loaded in the backrgound while you're on the main menu. When looking at a menu in between two matches, the game will also be loading. In my experiences with Frostbite 3, 100% CPU load while loading is normal. I observed this in Battlefront 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition.

    My specs:

    Intel core i5 4690K

    AMD Radeon R9 390

    8GB DDR3

    Windows 10 64-bit

I now have a separate power saving plan set in Windows for Frostbite 3 games which limits max CPU usage to 90%. My temperatures have dropped significantly (from 80°C max to below 70°C max) and this hasn't affected performance.

I would of course prefer if the engine didn't require 100% CPU load.

I think maybe Fred is right..

I have the same symptoms with my MSI RADEON HD7850,as the others.., cpu load in the menus and at the end of the each round in the points count (and we clearly see something is loading in the background). That happen also happen in the round menu. Game is going slow down when that happen, at least for me.

If i speed up the game load (that's mean if i ckick "next" and start game as soon as possible, i have the same symptoms in the 3/4 first seconds on the game (so after starting in the map).

Do you also have the same? I'll try to decrease the max cpu load and i'll see if that's help.

Thanks Fred , because of your comment you really help me.. i know at least what i have to do now to can play correctly.

I try disabeling one of the 4 cores -> No effect

I try to limit CPU with BES but without sucess. (do you have any way to limit cpu as i don t trust to much in this old BES)

But if i wait some seconds in the game screen (after selecting a server, the page where we can select the avatar and personalize guns etc..) until the cpu load decrease and i start the game after.. That work like a charm! in all maps! no more lag, delay , mini freeze..

Screenshot cpu load on the round main screen

If i don't wait this 20/25 seconds on the game screen, when starting the map the game is slow several seconds (like lag, not playable correctly). So the only solution for me is waiting 20/30 (that s depend on the map that's take me 1 minutes waitin in SUPREMACY in the Endoor map) until the cpu decrease and afer all work fine, like a charm in fact.

But for me is a problem, as i have the game install on a SSD drive, and very good internet connection, in a i5-4570. This behaviour don't look normal, why that's take so much time whith cpu at 100%?

    In fact .. I owe you a beer... 😃

Because until now i have to put my graphics options at the minimum to can run the game +- correctly (in 1280 and all low)... and now i can increase to medium and even high! the only thing is i have to wait until cpu is not at 95/100% on the main screen..if you wait the cpu load decrease to 60% +- after 20sec to 1 minutes, and after that all is work fine and i can now increase the resolution to play finally the game in good conditions...

only need some patience in the game main page.. That's don't look normal.

Since i have updated my drivers to the lasted new AMD Crimson driver i don't have any more problems about cpu usage, game is working now like a charm!

They say in the drivers logs they improve Star wars Battlfront performance by 30%, look to be true in my case.
