I'm a little disappointed in the lack of diversity for the ships seen thus far, two of which aren't space-worthy at all, unless there are elements to the gameplay in which you can or have to get out of your ship.
So far we have:
Scouts
RZ-1 A-Wing/TIE Intercepter
Strike Fighters
T-65 X-Wing/TIE Fighter
Bombers
TIE Bomber
Gunships
BTL Y-Wing
Transports
UT-60D U-Wing/TIE Reaper
Mind you, the Transports could be modified to work differently than their designers intended. This isn't the first time this has occurred in the Star Wars Universe. A predecessor to the TIE Shuttle (M-7 Razorwire) was used a bomber of sorts during the years of the Sith Empire. Thus it is of no coincidence that the TIE Shuttle does in fact resemble a TIE Bomber.
It would have been nice to have a little more variety within each class. Imperial players don't even have a Gunship, even though they do possess a counterpart to the Y-Wing in the lore (Xm-1 Nova Wing). And Rebel players don't even have a Bomber, like the B-Wing, or their counterpart to the TIE Bomber, the H-60 Tempest (predecessor of the B-Wing.)
There are numerous ships in the lore, some never seen outside of their source material, that would have made wonderful additions to this game. Galactic Starfighter for the MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic, has enough variety to make X-Wing Alliance blush a little, and each and every one of its ships is a direct predecessor to something that existed during the Galactic Civil War and beyond. They could have easily taken a page out of GSF and made a Galactic Civil War version of it. That game mode not only allows you to customize your ships, but also your character. It offers more as a game mode than Squadrons does as a stand alone game, as far as I know. So I ask, what staying power will Squadrons have? Will [REDACTED] support this title after release, something I don't recall them ever doing? Will they even get it right to begin with, something I'm also not accustomed to when it comes to [REDACTED]?
