It's up to you to choose what to do and you clearly have the option to do so.

Though it seems entirely reasonable to have measures to combat thieves and cheaters, this is hardly unexpected for such a game, particularly as i don't think anyone would enjoy multiplayer with rampant cheating going on. 🙂
