btw, in case this helps anyone, I finally got it working by doing this:

    • *How to link Steam and your EA Account* - https://help.ea.com/ca/help/pc/link-ea-and-steam/
    • deleted "Ivona" which is a TTS program I had on my system, I believe the optional TTS built into Squadrons conflicts with externally installed TTS programs

I used the EA app (Origin before), not Steam.

I cannot find "Ivona" in my Squadrons, so that is not the issue.

I see, actually the advice I was giving was regarding any TTS program in general with any name, anywhere on the computer, not just in Squadrons (Windows default TTS excluded)... it may or may not be causing your problem, but it's unfortunate for so many people that TTS could've unknowingly been causing their conflict, since it's not mentioned anywhere, and it's only after successfully opening the game that one can even see Squadrons has its own TTS
