Wildly variant resource usage (CPU & GPU)/Performance Problems

Product: Star Wars: Squadrons
Platform:Steam-PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
What is your gamertag/PSN ID/EA Account name? NerscyllaDentata
Are you playing in VR? No
Which part of the game is the issue happening in? Dogfight
What were you doing when the bug occurred? Step by Step detail is helpful. Loading into a match (any mode) or the hangar.
Where did this issue occur? Please include menu name or in game location. All across the game.
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) 10/02/20 - Consistent
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
How severe is your issue? Can play, but it's highly frustrating
What happens when the bug occurs? PC resource usage is wildly inconsistent. Sometimes when entering a hangar or mission GPU and CPU usage spikes to 100% and framerate slows to below 30fps. Other times visiting the same map or location (sometimes immediately after) runs fine. CPU and GPU max at 40% and the game runs at 60fps without issue. The entire mission or area will remain consistent when things are fine. When the game runs slow, there will be an occasional recovery to high FPS but rarely stays. I can tell during the opening cinematic of a match how it will be.
What do you expect to see? There's no visual difference when it runs smoothly vs when it it is now.
Which ship were you playing? If not applicable, just answer "no" or "none." No
What components were you using? Varies
Which customizations (if any) were you using? Varies

Ticket explains it all, there's no rhyme or reason for the increase in resource usage and I have no idea why it varies so much.

  • Hey, @NerscyllaDentata make sure that all drivers for windows are up to date.

You can also try to do a clean boot to see if there any programs messing with Star Wars: Squadrons and turn off any overlay programs for example Discord or Nvidia experience.

Worth to reinstall the GPU drivers for your PC.

Let me know if this works or not for you. 🙂

  • Thanks for all the suggestions. I'd tried most of these steps already but re-attempted with no success.

Although it did not originally fix the issue, I did find that setting the game to fullscreen instead of windowed cuts the resource use by half. The problem still persists in windowed mode but I am able to run it fine otherwise.

ve found a workaround for the 100% cpu usage

On power option's if you have selected balanced select "change advanced power settings"

On processor power management select maximum processor state and change to 95%

Now my max temp is 36-38c on an AMD FX8320 before this computer would reboot
