Can't change my SWTOR graphics options

You could try installing DirectX 9.0, as SWTOR runs with Dx9 and you have Dx10 currently installed.

Nope.

No success. Guess I just have to wait it out. Maybe SWTOR will stabalize in time. Maybe a fix will come.

Morning I know I am late to the party, but out of curiosity you did try making your way through this guide yes?

The additional questions would be , did you remove the 'read only' from your appdata/swtor folder and all its subfolders including to do the same for your 'documents/swtor' (screenshots and combat logs will crash game).

Did you right click your windows desktop and then ensure all the Screen Resolution settings there were  your pc's 'Native' settings; to only then do the same for your ATI software (*If  you have more then one screen, then screen orientation is very important also), and then ensure that it was the same for your game_settings.cfg file?

Did you ensure to not install AMD's Raptor program while you were installing your ATI drivers? Along with all the other programs mentioned turning off their 'overlays'?

Hi, I've been having the same problem. I have followed the install guide and got rid of the AMD Raptor program (uninstalled it entirely). Also turned off the X-box App overlay and installed DirectX 9. Definitely an improvement, but still can't change my graphics options (stuck on medium; trying to change them just freezes things, and then reverts back to medium) - game is very jerky which detracts from the play experience.

By the sounds of it you have already worked through my guide; my suggestion would be to ensure that you have removed the "Read Only' from your /appdata/local/swtor folder, also contained in the guide is the walkthrough for that process.

Exactly the same problem as me. I guess you are using a HP as aswell?

I reinstalled both the game and windows. In windows 8.1., everything worked. When I installed windows 10, the problems were back.

You could try to revert back to win 8. You should be able to change the settings. Then go back to win 10, or stay with win 8.

I don't know if this problem will be fixed. We can only hope.

Yup, a new HP on which I've run Windows 10 since I got it.  Up until the most recent update STWOR has been playable (a little jerky, but not too bad) but it seems to be the latest update in combination with Windows 10 that is causing the issue. I'm pretty disappointed as I've been a subscriber in anticipation of the new expansion and my subscription literally rolled over today. 

TBH, while I could wind back to Windows 8.1, I don't  think I have the patience to do so. I have very limited free time around work and other than SWTOR everything else seems to work fine in Windows 10. I have so many other things to do that it's just not worth the hassle sorting it out. If it's not sorted out promptly, I'll probably just walk away.

Hi @proxos666; Yes, I did that earilier (as well as everything else in Woody's post). I went and double checked it however and it had re-set to read only (and every time I change it, it immediately reverts back to read-only)

Have your tried applying this to specifically the client_settings file ?

Impression is it is likely related to this folder , can also delete the entire swtor folder in the appdata area , it will auto recreate on next launch

if you want to keep any custom Uis copy the GUIProfile folder out and paste it back after the folder recreates.

No idea if this will help just suggestions on possible steps to try

Tried this solution as well.

Unchecked the 'read only' and confirmed. Closed the folder, before going back to check. The 'read only' was back.

Have you tried deleting that appdata swtor folder ? maybe cut it out to desktop so can paste back if required

Not the whole folder. I have however tried to delete the client_settings file (and the rest of the files) in the swtor settings folder.

The client_setting file now on place. I have unchecked the 'read-only'.

None of these measures fixed the problem.

Like with @zcthu3 my problems came with the last update (the one were they updated the 'start-browser'). Have had win 10 since late summer. No problems until about a week ago.

When you run swtor is it running as administrator ?

I am wondering if windows permissions are causing this

Seems like we have exactly the same problem.

I'm in the same situation. Work and studies. I think I just have to wait and hope for a new update that will fix the problem.

 If however you find a solution, please share it in this tread. I will off course to the same.

I know i may not sound too technical, but when are you trying to change the graphics? Say when you are in game in for example, the fleet or at at the log in screen with all your characters?

It may be too stressfull for your pc to handle the change in graphics while in-game (you press play >game loads graphics -> has to up/lower them -> load graphics again) whereas at the log in screen you basically change the graphics before the game has to load them (change graphics to low/high > press play > load graphics) which is less stressfull for your pc to load. Also last update brought some major changes to the way the graphics in the game are rendered to improve performance (or you would think that) and it may be interfering with some of the windows 10 software, but alot of my friends are playing swtor just fine on w10

I suggest trying changing the graphics in the log in screen if you havent done so already...

Your points on pc stress is valid. My computer seem to be struggling when running the game. Also SWOTOR seem to hang a bit after ending the game.

These problems started after the last update.
