Re: This site cannot provide a secure connection

I notice a few are having this problem. It has been suggested that the account could be blocked due to too many purchases? Well, I'd like to buy things. I have money that I'd like to spend. Can we fix it before the extra items in the market are no longer available please? I do not want to buy from Amazon. I want the website to work correctly, or my account to be unblocked.

As others have complained, I also can't buy anything on the SWTOR-site, as it goes straight to the receipt, without any verification. Before this blank receipt, I got the ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR whenever I tried checking out, and this has been happening for over a week. I am now back to getting the error.

An error occurred during a connection to swtor.checkout.ea.com. SSL received a record with an incorrect Message Authentication Code.

Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_MAC_READ

    @Kyrbej

    I have merged your post into this one, this keeps the current issue in one thread rather then have multiples being used all the time.

    This appears to be an issue confined to paypal, bioware are investigating if it is on their or paypals end.

    Using a different payment method should work otherwise maybe using paypal on amazon can be a short term solution.

    other then that @EA_Kipling has said he will post any updates in this thread.

    Well, you can't use paypal on Amazon. Nor should we have to. Just have the issue fixed. And seeing as how this issue goes back to at least 2013, according to the various boards where people have posted about it, I have to suspect it is not Paypal. More so, because even in these recent threads people have mentioned a similar problem, with credit cards. Does anyone actually check out these issues? Or just pass the buck? The only thing I see that has been suggested, since 2013, is the possibility of an account being blocked for purchasing too many times. However, this suggestion has not come from an EA representative. The only suggestions I have seen from EA representatives are the typical and repeated, "call your bank", "try to buy on amazon" and so forth. yeah, people have been doing that, since 2013. Let's get the website fixed, please. Or tell us how to get the account unblocked, for spending too much? If that is the case. You are losing money and also losing players, if that matters. It's quite frustrating.

    Also, thanks for "merging (hiding) my posts in one thread, so it is not as noticeable an issue.

    @Kyrbej

    maybe taking it too personal

    Nothing to do with not being noticeable the thread will should stay up near the top of the forum when a major issue, it is also easier to provide known information on an issue in one thread then across 4 or more threads.

    I am a subscriber, and I buy a lot each month. Now when I want to use the services I pay for, I can not. Is this a professional response to a customer that is basically being ripped off? Pathetic. I see now why so many complain about service with this company. Yes, I'm upset.

    @Kyrbej

    I am a player/subscriber too, and a volunteer forum moderator.

    No one disputes there is an issue with paypal being used on swtor.com, this particular thread is marked by Swtor CS that they will update this thread with further information when known.

    I am not sure what you are looking for here, it is being investigated.

    Actually, could everyone post their browser and versions? Even if it's fixed for you, and if you tried multiple, just post the one you mainly use.

    @JayOnPc @Legogutt2000 @LadyChasakan

    And I can confirm for @Kyrbej that this should have nothing to do with previous payments or frequency of attempts/purchases.

    I am using Firefox, it is updated.

    59.0.2 (64bit)

    I also tried with IE. I do not remember that version and I'm not on that computer right now.

    Thank you for the reply.

  • using chrome, i asume its up to date. and it would be a 64bit version if thats a thing (didn't realy check) though as said for me it worked when using a card, not with paypal.

  • I use chrome aswell, and it's up to date. Have the same problem half the time, the other half it just goes straight to receipt, no verification at all.

    As I mentioned in my original post, I tried THREE different browsers.

    I mainly use Firefox Quantum and it is currently version 59.0.2 (It's my default browser)

    I also attempted with Opera version 52 (my secondary browser)

    I also tried Google Chrome as a last resort, I had version 65.0.3 (Don't use it, just tried Chrome to see if it was a browser issue)

    I don't use IE, haven't for years and won't use due to too many security issues.

    I use Paypal for my online transactions.

    I didn't have issues getting a CC card from Amazon and redeeming the code on my account.

    I hope the Paypal issue won't affect my subscription since it goes through Paypal.

    Same problem using Paypal to purchase CC from Website. I have two different browsers.

    Using Firefox (59.0.2): SSL_ERROR_BAD_MAC_READ

    Using Google Chrome ( 65.0.3325.181): ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

    I really wanted to buy some CC from Website via Paypal but I can't ☹️

    I am using google chrome, and it is the most updated version.

  • I'm using the most recent Google Chrome and getting the same SSL failing error. I've also tried in the most recent Firefox, and in Safari on a Mac running macOS 10.13.1.

    *UPDATE* About a day or so after my last post here, it finally worked...3 times. I was able to get some of the gear I wanted. I felt a little happier, for a while. The next time I tried to purchase more coins (I buy 5500 at a time usually) it went back to the blank receipt. Now I can not buy more credits again for the Masters datacrons I wanted. I see the option to buy the larger amount of credits at a time, but it seems we are expected to pay for the ability...to buy more? Sorry, I can not rationalize that idea. I prefer to buy 5500 at a time. I'm already paying enough for these virtual items, I can't justify paying for the ability, to spend more of my money. I hope that is not why there seems to be a limit on how many times I can buy credits. I mean, If I have the money to spend, it would seem the company would be happy to have my business? Are we sure there is not a limit to the amount of credits or times we can purchase? Or is this just a coincidence and random issue?

    @Luten6666 I completely understand the aversion to Internet Explorer :D So you're still getting the SSL error (or similar) with other browsers? Could you provide your SWTOR Account Name?

    How much did you buy? Please let us know if it cuts you off again after purchasing a certain amount or certain number of times. Mine worked suddenly a few times, then back to the same. Was using Firefox browser.

    On the others browsers I have still the same error - SSL. I didn't say I bought CC but only have error (when I want to click button "Pay Now" - it should redirect to PayPal website to finalize order). It is on IE but on Chrome and Fiorefox got me SSL error. I don't want to use IE to go one step further to finalize it because I don't trust IE. So there is need fix this problem on others trusted browsers.

    Yes, I wanted to buy some CC but I don't need them now - I sold some old stuff in game and bought what I wanted on GTN.

    **Update2*** Apparently my subscription was renewed, which is also by PayPal. So I thought, hmmmm, maybe it is fixed again? Tried to buy more coins. Nope. Still goes to the blank receipt. So, it must not be an issue with PayPal, if my auto subscription which is tied to PayPal works? Has any progress been made in discovering the issue, or fixing it? So far, I'm still ready and willing to spend my money. But getting bored because shopping and dressing my toons is one of the things I enjoy most in this game.

    @Kyrbej It does make sense that your auto-renewal would work since it doesn't require you to go through checkout again.

    We're still investigating the issue, I do appreciate all your patience.
