Stuck at loading screen

I have been unable to get to character screen/server selection/etc. since last night. Everything is just normal at launcher, but when I hit "play", I get stuck watching a neverending loading screen. Everything was working just fine until last night, when I noticed I was not able to make new characters on any server (probably because my amount of characters on Darth Malgus is exceeding the limit), which I thought was weird, because I was pretty sure I would have been able to create more on other servers just after the merges. I decided to try deleting a character to see if it had any effect (it didn't) and then decided to try to restart the game in case it was a bug -- and that's when the trouble started. From that moment, I have not been able to get into the game.

I have tried

- rebooting my computer

- rebooting my internet

- updating my graphic card driver

- using the repair tool at launcher

- deleting bitraider

- deleting diskcachearena

 Nothing has had any effect.

  • Well, right now it seems that this has been fixed by re-installing the game. No idea what caused it in the first place, but I'm able to play again. Might have been Norton -- I checked I had swtor and launcher as "allow" in the firewall, but when I first started the game after re-installing, I got some message from Norton warning how it considers swtor to be somehow dangerous. Don't know if it had done something less obvious to cause me not being able to play.

@proxos666 , thanks for all the help. ^^

Can you try either pressing the ALT + Enter (may need to press twice)  keys on that loading screen or edit the client_setting file as mentioned at this link

Just in case this is just a setting issue

There has been a few posting recently with patching issues , maybe related as well and be a net issue of some description, I gather your in finland just to keep an eye on region if affected ?

  • @proxos666

I did the ALT  + Enter, and it did not help. It seems I'm unable to edit the client_setting file the way that guide instructs, as my file for that is apparently located in different place or something (it just gives me an error message about not finding it).

I can confirm I'm in Finland.

That is odd , that folder location is created on successful first launch of the game, this location is no different on windows 7

It maybe your language setting altering the location path , if you just use %localappdata% does that open a folder location ? you can then scroll down to look for the swtor folder.

I guess one way to confirm it is just a language issue to that location is change the language to English UK

I didn't find the file from there, but it seems this command just looks for stuff from C:. I have a divided hard drive with both C: and D:, is it possible to check if that file has been created to D:?
  • @proxos666

Well, regardless, I can't find anything that says "swtor" from there. Here's a screenshot on that location

EDIT:// nevermind, found it when uninstalling. It was in users/asus instead of my user, for some reason unknown to me. I'll check if re-installing helps since I consulted my father and he was quite adamant that I should try that.

Can see how a re-install goes, if the game cant create that folder location it will hang, question is if you where playing before why it isn't there is strange
