SWTOR crashes and resets resolution

Ok, I've been having a bit of trouble since I got SWTOR on my new PC. It will randomly crash to the desktop without warning. And when it does, it sets my screen resolution to 800X600. I tried to see if anyone else has had this problem, but it doesn't look like it. My graphics card is an MSI Radeon. Is there anything I can do?

Reseat the card and check the power connections too it, also ensure the monitor is connected to the radeon card and not the motherboard connections.

also check device manager for any unrecognized devices with no drivers installed

Can you post a dxdiag per here and a copy of the client_settings file found at the below location

Press the [Windows] Key + [R] at the same time

Copy the following in to the text box and press ok

    %localappdata%\swtor\swtor\settings

Are you certain you have a MSI Radeon video card ? the dxdiag only shows the inbuilt Intel 530 , and no sign of a Radeon active in the system.

Now so saying this , try reverting the Intel driver to one prior to Sep 15 , see the known issues sticky at the top of this forum regarding intel video cards

Edit - the resolution dropping to 800 x 600 as that is the resolution set ingame when the game crashes it isnt reverting to desktop resolution cleanly

  •  Yes, I do. I installed it myself. It's an MSI Radeon R9 380 DirectX 12 R9 380 4GD5T OC 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support ATX Video Card

It isn't active in the system, if it was there it would be listed in the dxdiag under system devices

if you look at the "system devices" section there is only the intel 530 , if the radeon was active/recognised it would be listed there.

If this was after a crash run the dxdiag after a system reboot and see if it appears

  • Ah, a thought occurs. Perhaps it's as simple as I didn't install the graphics card properly. I will check.
