How can I fix this?
I've tried using Reddit's monthly referral links. I've also tried opening a google incognito window in case it was a problem with cookies. Nothing seems to work.
I find myself in the same situation. I have contacted customer support by telephone where I was told this issue was a "in game" issue and that only "account" issues were handled by phone. I was told to contact customer support via email, which I did, the answer I got there was either by someone who has no idea what the referral program is or it was an automated system - I suspect it was automate by its lack of logic and insulting tone - which is quite an achievement.

I'm not a sub, so I can't call CS. That's why I'm here, this is the only platform open to preferred. Unless that information is wrong, in which case, please tell me the number and I will gladly call.
My sub expired Feb 21. I've been trying different referrals since. I thought it might be a cookies problem, so I tried it from my phone the other day, no difference. As someone earlier had suggested that someone might have gotten too many referrals, I've also been trying referrals from new players. Again, no dice.

Right, so I called customer support. Despite the fact that it says right on the link provided that it's for subscribers only.
I called and they said 'make an in-game ticket'. Well obviously as preferred I can't do that. So ok, send us an email with the ticket number that they will provide me. I send an email, and in response they say "oh no, you need to talk to the person who's referral you're clicking on, get THEM to write a ticket, so then CS can fix the issue with your account."
Just to hit on the head, as if it wasn't abundantly clear, that this service isn't for prefs, it's for subs.
I've heard horror stories on the forum about CS for years and always thought it was because the people writing the tickets are jerks. That might be part of it, but a big part is EA policy which has always been this fiasco. I paid money for the service in the past, I WANT to subscribe again, but since I'm not subbing right now, EA thinks it's perfectly okay to block me from getting support.

I am aware for CS to look at anything to do with referral issues they require both accounts to submit a ticket/email
person who's referral you are clicking needs to say he has provided his referral to you and it isnt working
You need to state that you are clicking that persons referral and it is not working
reason for this is that this crosses over 2 accounts yours and the persons referral you try to use, and both need to provide consent/request this to be investigated due to privacy/account security policies.
This cannot be handled over the forums at AHQ

It can't be handled at all, apparently.
Either referral links don't work at all anymore, or this is a problem specific to me. If people are able to use referral links successfully, if there aren't many people complaining about this problem, then clearly it's the latter.
But CS evidently has a checklist of fixes they need to try, in exacting order, and just because the most common solution doesn't make any sense in this case, doesn't mean they can skip it to go on to the more likely scenarios.
It explains much about the bugs in this game, and the way it takes years to get anything fixed.
So how's this: if someone calls CS, gives them the ticket number I just gave, gives permission for them to check their referral against my account, I'll give you 20 Charged Matter Transubstantiators. I can't send credits by mail and I can't withdraw more than 350k at a time, but I can send stacks of items by mail or securetrade. CMTs go for around 1.5 mil on the GTN, that's in addition to the 100 cc you get for me clicking on your link, plus the 500 cc when I sub, but I'll pay the CMTs immediately [in case it doesn't work]. Unfortunately, I'm limited to SS. If you're on SF, it would be more like 5-6 CMTs.
I've clicked the links of everyone who posted in this thread [who has them in their sig]. They don't work. So, if bribery isn't convincing to you, then hey, maybe this is something affecting the entire game, and wouldn't you like to know if your referral link is broken?
