I also had same issues with this event in the past. I prepared my Bears with better mods and some omega and got it today in auto mode.
Chirpa (5* G8) Lead, Teebo (7* G8), Eldar (7* G9), Scout (7* G8) and Wicked (4* G8)
Similar as the imperial event to beat the Ewoks, I guess the speed is important.
My Ewoks were faster than the AT-ST for turnmeter removal.
