Is this supposed to happen with Malak?
He keeps getting the dark infusion buff, even if I kill the jedi. Is that normal?

That isn't true. If you kill the Jedi and not Malak then he doesn't get any buffs. What likely happened is that you used an aoe that put Malak at 50% when you "killed" the jedi.
As you can see in the screenshot the OP showed, 3 jedi are dead but Malak only has the Tenacity buff and 1 stack of Dark infusion so I am not sure what the sceenshot is supposed to prove.
