"Stunning team" update
I've mentioned in the past that I was working on a team based mostly on stunning, along with assists and some counters. It has taken several weeks for me to get the pieces together. It's still not entirely where I want it (a few stars missing here and there) but it's good enough that I'm using it in Arena, since each extra star from here out will take weeks more. This team is usually good enough to get me in the top 10 on my mostly-competitive hard launch server, though not always.
The team:
7* Phasma (L)
5* Dooku
6* Asajj
6* Daka
7* Lumi
Luminara doesn't belong on this team; her slot was supposed to go to Kylo or someone else with a stun, like Finn. However, what I've discovered about this team is that it is very slow and defensive. It takes a while to get going, and that's hard to do in the current meta with all the damage output. There's nobody on this team who really pounds out the damage, so it takes a while to kill the other guys off. Daka's heal is too poor, and frankly, using her turn on a heal is actually a waste. I found that I simply needed Lumi's heal to survive long enough to win.
I never thought of this team as defensive, but it basically is. It's designed not to beat the other team quickly, but to outlast it, giving time for Phasma's two abilities to work, while slowing down the other team with stuns and slowly wearing them down with assist attacks.
It's not super powerful, and would likely lose easily to any of the broken Poe/FOTP/Leia teams.. unless I am lucky enough to stun Poe first.. and maybe even then. But it's fun to play because it is challenging. Many of my wins are "come from behind" affairs, where my team starts out in tatters, but recovers through a combination of heals, strategic stuns, Phasma's slow ability and some assists. These are a lot of fun when they work out... not so much when they do not.
This team is also very VERY dependent on the RNG gods. This is ironic, because many of you will know that I HATE random stuff, to the point where I have never purchased a single chromium pack. However, because of its reliance on probability-based stuns and assists, I have to have at least a little bit of luck. If the stuns aren't landing and the assists aren't coming, I am probably toast. If I end up hanging up this team, that will likely be the reason why.
Asajj is the hidden gem on this team. Yes, she's slow. But she packs a wallop, especially if the stars align and she can AoE at the right time. Using her dispel on a team right after a Poggle or Phasma buffs it.. this is a thing of beauty and has turned around a game I was losing more than once. Of course if they remove her team heal, she becomes much less useful, possibly to the point where I might even have to remove her... unless they also make her dispel more reliable.
This team requires care to play and so it is probably relatively easy to beat when the AI has it.
I will probably play with this some more, and then experiment with an assist/counter team instead. This would involve pulling Daka and Asajj and replacing them with Fives and Kylo. I think this too would be fun on offense, but probably also easy to beat by others (Fives is easily ignored). Unfortunately my Fives is still only 3*, and there's so much competition for Cantina credits that it will take a while to get him to the (at least) 5* he needs to be effective. (I have to decide if I want to 7* Daka or not, and if I want to get Poe or not).
Anyway, thought some of you would find this interesting.
