I,m new to this and want to make the best of it. Guys, gimme some tips please: Like, do I keep the best squads for attack or place them in defence? Use best fleet to defend or keep it for attack?...

This. TBH, if your guild is not providing you with advice or instructions on how to proceed, it may be time to find a new guild. It's hard to give meaningful advice without knowing all of your guild's resources.
If your guild is ALL brand new to TW, that's different. In that case, I'd just kind of split the difference; see what happens; discuss it with your guild and adjust from there.
