Sims 1 Legacy Collection launches, but freezes and computer becomes unresponsive

Basically as the title says -- the game launches, but immediately freezes on "Interpreting Family Values." The music seizes up and sounds like a bad motor, and my computer becomes unresponsive. Hitting the Windows key does nothing, I can't bring up task manager, so I have to force shut down. I've uninstalled and re-installed, but nothing has changed. Any help is appreciated. 

My computer is Acer Aspire V Nitro running Windows 10, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX960M; Intel (R) HD Graphics 530
