Edit: I attached what the needs bars look like.
I reupdated my drivers, restarted my machine. Now the needs bars look corrupted. Not straight lines. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. Same issues, crashing after 10 seconds of being in-game.
This is a bug with new NVIDIA drivers as I described here. You can fix it if you go into NVIDIA Control Panel and set Vulkan/OpenGL present method to prefer native for The Sims 1 as riperiperi has found. Do note I'm talking about what the bars look like, that's going to get fixed. Crashing is probably unrelated.
the bars are fixed thanks. game still crashes after 10secs though. hope EA can fix this soon. or offer up refunds through steam.
