It's true that better specs are important. In my case they're the variable that changed it all...
I have followed the steam performance guide for sims 3 a couple of years ago in my old laptop and the game lagged anyway.
Now with a gaming laptop and the exact same fixes my game loads in 5 seconds and never lags.
The game is much more alive than 4 with all townies living their lives meaningfully, sims acting according to their traits and no broken order queues (i can prepare extensive order queues for all sims in the household and they will do it all).
Take it from someone that also likes to play 4. In no way i'm trying to put it down. It is just what it is...
