Ok! Found a workaround!
The sim abducted must be the only sim on the lot. If there are any other sims, no matter how far, an error gets triggered on that sim, resetting both the other sim and the sim getting abducted.
So yeah, your sim can get abducted alone, but can't get abducted with anyone else.
