Child sim cannot eat

My child sim will grab food or go to sit down at the table to eat and then appears standing next to the table. The adults have no issues sitting and eating, just the child. I've tried buying a new dining room set. I've tried verifying the integrity of my files in steam and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game. How can I fix this issue?
