Lighting Mod?

Is there a good lighting mod that will make the game brighter? Like while indoors and lights off it seems sort of darker than I remembered. Especially, if I take screen shots indoors seems darker than TS4 or TS3 in some houses, even with lots of windows. I have my graphics on high (all of the settigns) and I have nice shadows etc. and sunshine (some) from windows on floors etc. however, the over all look of the screenshots look a little dark to me.

Outdoors is really dark compared to TS3 and or TS4. I used to love this but maybe with old eyes I might need it to not be so pitch dark anymore.

I have a mod for smarter lights to turn lights off and on when Sims leave the rooms etc. Do you know of a good lighting mod that won't intefere with that mod? Thanks!
  • Hi @Cinebar

At the moment in my game I am not too worried by darker nights as I use Criquette's neighborhood lights deco in all my streets on the map which might help your issue.

If you like using Voeilles's water mod which I do then you will need Criquettes version of the neighborhood lights that is compatible with that creators water mod ( works on all ponds & the sea)

this is an evening Pleasantview map view using Criquettes neighborhood lights (prior to sky mods)

street/lot view evening no sky mods used

I used neighborhood lights externally next to my sims lot outdoors to show the lighting in the evening (sky mods used)

here is a daytime view of clouds and water (using both sky and water mod)

This is the whole map view of the clouds meeting the edge of the map

Lastly if you want to add more light to your maps you can use a variety skyscraper lots and smaller residential styles of empty lots that are just deco but the lights come on at dusk until dawn. I don't have a pic of the smaller deco houses but these skyscraper lots show what I mean.

19 lit-up nhood deco skyscrapers from “cities in motion” and “cities: skylines” for The Sims 2

deedee-sims also made some smaller neighborhood lots that light up at night

more here and I have used all these and they look fab in game

I also Numenor's The SCRIPTORIUM: v. 2.2f (BugFix + Radiance 2.4) with GunMods lighting mod

    http://modthesims.info/d/192613

If you don't want the Scriptorium you can separately download dDefinder's Gunmod's Radiance Light System 2.4 and upon reading the description it could be what you are looking for as it mentions various tweaks to indoor/outdoor lighting plus I know this is compatible with Criquette's neighborhood light deco as I use them both in my game. (once you have seen the neighborhood lights around the world you never want to go back-)

or this GunMod's Camera Mod 3.1 -- All Game Versions

    https://modthesims.info/d/97642

I also use Nopke skyFix 2.1 this makes the stars brighter and I think the moon comes back into view. You need to read through and make sure everything is compatible however I use this with the neighborhood lights deco and the Gumods lighting mod along with scriptorium so there will be no issues using that particular combination.

I also use a compatible sky box to everything listed above that actually allows the stars to be shown through the atmosphere via Nopke's skyfix plus provide moving clouds (you can set the speed) which look awesome and if my memory serves the mod I use covers both the neighborhood map and lot view which saves an awful lot of work however I forget the exact mod so if you wanted to know about that one let me know and I will try find out which exact one it is because I have tried loads of them in the past-)

I am almost positive I am using these sky boxes put cannot tell you in what combination-) :)

I probably went overboard but when I start a project lol :)

Edit Cyjon has a Outdoor Lights All Night mod but I have never tried it

I'm not currently using any. I guess it just hasn't been bothering me since reinstalling. Lol.
But, I know I've looked at some in the past on MTS and I remember in particular GunMod's lighting mods seem to have a lot of positive comments.
  • I'll go check but I did look before this thread and I couldn't find one to alter the lighting of the entire game. What I see while playing is fine but when I take a snap shot it seems rather dark to me as if the lights aren't on in the house. Many of the later lights in the game don't seem to produce as much light in a house as before; and I can say for certain any cloned lights I have from other games such as TS3 and or extracted from other games aren't as bright as the TS2 basegame lights. But that's another discussion I guess. It just seems it is a bit duller, not as bright than I remember when looking at my snap shots for things they were doing etc.
  • If your only issue with the lights is in pics it might be better to edit them than get a lighting mod. I dont know how they work in ts2 but in ts3 even your UI was affected by it and it can look irritating. Editing pics is even easier if you have windows 10 as there is an option to do so when you open a photo, you can alter the lighting and color staturation among other things.

Well not exactly. TS2 nights are very dark, like triple than TS4 IIRC. When outside in the game it's hard to see Sims and or the area the nights are so dark, which I used to love but now I don't. lol Maybe my eyes are old and tired. I would like to brighten up the lighting files just a little but was hoping for a mod that might help. But yes, the pictures and video do seem to be darker and I was thinking today maybe it's the old V6 codec that doesn't seem to work as well as it used to when the game was new. Or maybe that backward compatible V7 thingy, codec on playback or something doesn't work as well as they used to do with newer machines or even Win. 7 with much later patches as it once did. Doesn't seem that dark until I go back and look sometimes.
  • I didn't see it suggested but a lot of people like Dread Pirate's lighting mod here https://dreadpirate.tumblr.com/post/175989937517/maxis-match-lighting-mod-at-last-i-finally
