By any chance, did you start playing with Sims3?
When Sims3 was being launched, one of the features introduced by Rod Humble was to slow down needs so players were not having to tend to Sims ablutions so frequently or their hunger.
Like @Seera1024, The Sims needs was even more challenging! :)
