I am going to disagree with you as this last week I have been playing Sims3 and finding looking after the Sim's needs a dawdle compared with Sims2 - no rushing off for ablutions and my Sim is practically surviving on one meal a day! :)
I have never purchased the steel bladder reward for my Sim and tend to prefer other rewards such as trait observant so I can't comment but for me it is kind of unnatural. ;)
