Sims 2 Directx 9.0c compatible graphics adapter failed

this opens the game but it will still crash after creating a sim

people are saying this fixes the issue:
- Create your sim.
- It crashes
- Go to your steam library > Right click the game > Properties > Installed files
- Click "Verify integrity of game files"
- It downloads additional missing files
And after that, when you create another sim, it won't crash again.

You can do the same on EAs app, but I personally don't know how to get there. But the steps should be roughly the same.
