There are several things you can try to fix this if you have followed all the directions with the GRM and other tools. First just try updating your game with Origin. Maybe some files were corrupted (program files) when you downloaded it.
2. Try to determine when the game crashes, what are you doing at the time? I know you said it's just random but there is probably a trigger of some sort that causes the crash. TS2 doesn't have an auto save, try saving the game more often. At least every fifteen minutes or so, or after an important event such as before they go to bed, before you have them leave the house, after they gain a skill.
3. You haven't mentioned your system specs. Therefore, try playing in window mode. Or try reducing your screen resolution and see if that stops some of the crashing and if all else fails, try getting a deeper answer over on the Graphics Rule Makers' (Leefish) site. They can usually help you set it up correctly. It was my experience that the 4GB patch broke my game and I had to rework the GRM to work with my newer card. Leefish updated the lists of supported video cards, perhaps that file is something you need.
