Emotions aren't even new though. Sims in TS2 had emotions, they also had actual memories. They'd randomly start crying after they remembered a negative event even a sim week later.
So do sims in S3. Not too much of a fan of the random crying by the way, days after the death of a total stranger they accidently witnessed.
For me the emotions have always been over the top. Life Simulation and overacting aren't necessarily connected for me.
