I'm still going to disgree this isn't a building a house problem. If I build a house and the dining room is directly across from a bathroom counter, they are going to take the shortest path. However, a neat Sim will place the plate on a counter in the dining room. Build them as buffets with a lamp, flowers, and a space for a plate. Usually the neater Sim serving the food will put the plate on the space in the dining room.
Stairs, It's a fact Maxis broke their own rules about building. They use move objects on to squeeze stoves into a space (found in base game, tiny houses in the game) to make it fit. And if Sims are getting stuck on stairs it's because the rule is to have a space at top at both sides. *Like a T* But Maxis houses just squeezed those in to fit and no space on to the other side. Problem solved. ETA: Fact, Sims get stuck on the premade stairs more often than they ever do on the modular stairs, and another fact, Maxis didn't leave enough empty space at top and covered the floor at top (over the stairs) with tile or carptet/wood etc. It requires at least four or five empty floor spaces, over the top of stairs even if you can build a wall across the stair case. Don't, unless you have four or five empty floor tiles. Usually it requires five for smooth climbing/decending.
