Hi jessiepixel, you asked me how to make a Shop? Well once you have a Shop it can be a Consignment store, Food and Grocery Store, Bookstore and if you have Pets, a Pet Store. If you have 'World Adventures' expansion they have other Shops/Tills only for Holiday Maps.
To Have the correct Tills your Lot has to be a Community Lot and then you can find the Tills in buy/build mode or in buydebug (cheat) and there you will find many useful items too for Shops and other builds even Residential.
By the way the items available from the Tills change especially the Consignment Stores and you can sell your sims creations to them like Paintings, sculptures etc, you leave with them and when sold your sim is told on your screen!
