In response to Scorpina2009 and LuckyHeathers' comments at the top of this page...my favorite addition to Sims 3 would be a version of "Open For Business" where a Sim can have a home business and live over their shop full-time. Many wonderful designers have such lots on their studios but like LH said, it's Residential or Commercial currently, not both.
Would especially love this aspect, but really did enjoy the whole owning a business mechanics on home or separate lot. Personally I'd enjoy it even more if the AI had a better procedure on book-keeping, to really show how a business is succeeding. Oh, and the business owner perks were great too, such as discounts on all catalog purchases, I do miss the "badge" system or a similar way of improving skills that directly affect other sims.
Another huge benefit of your sim owning a business is socialization. It was so great meeting and greeting all the residents of your world as they popped in to browse or buy.
