Augusta the Adventurer (PalmArrow's gameplay thread)

When I first started playing the Sims 3 in 2014 - which was also the first time I played any Sims game at all - I created a female Sim to live, basically, my dream life. Augusta lived on a houseboat in Isla Paradiso, was a self-employed artist, went on World Adventures, went scuba-diving and married a red-haired writer called  Aidan, whom I created for her. They eventually had a red-haired daughter. Awesome! But, since it was my first time playing any Sims game, I was absolutely in over my head. I didn't have any experience with taking care of a sim's basic needs and skills, and I was trying to fight mummies and sharks!

So I decided to reboot my first ever gameplay, but this time I will actually know what I'm doing! I didn't want to remake Augusta and Aidan from scratch. I remade them from the actual same sims I played then, but I changed their looks completely because I was terrible at CAS back then too. (Luckily, my graphic settings were also terrible so I rarely had a good look at their faces!)

Augusta then and now:

Aidan then and now:

A throwback image from my old save. Augusta and Aidan are mature adults here, the houseboat they live in is large and full of relics and nectar from Augusta's adventures, and their daughter Imogen has just aged up to teen.

Soon after this I abandoned this save. I wanted to try new content and better graphics, and even more importantly, I didn't want Aidan and Augusta to age up and die. But now I feel excited about revisiting the story!

A hailstorm hits Isla Paradiso in the morning. It looks beautiful - as if the sea was covered in glitter.

Augusta reads inside her cozy houseboat, waiting for the hailstorm to end.

After the storm, she spends some time working on a new painting, and then calls a water taxi to take her to the beginner-friendly diving spot.

It looks so remote and in the middle of nowhere...

... but it's actually a very popular spot, and other swimmers and divers soon arrive.
Augusta needs to snorkel first and gain another half a level of experience before she can dive down.

Finally, Augusta has her scuba gear and is ready to dive down!

The underwater world looks like heaven.

She swims around, finds a seashell and a lobster, explores a cave and finds a piece of silver. She gains another skill level while doing this without even noticing. Nothing bad happens underwater...

... but on resurfacing, she finds that sharks are circling around the dive spot! Time to call a taxi and return home!

Augusta is tired and decompressing, and she needs a good night's sleep. But it was not to be. A loud sound wakes her up in the middle of the night.

It's the burglar alarm she installed after she retuned from China! To protect the objects she keeps on her roof, the alarm is on the outside of the houseboat. That's why the burglar was caught before he even entered the houseboat.

A policewoman soon arrives, beats the burglar up and handcuffs him.

Luckily, the only thing that was stolen was a few hours of well-earned sleep.

After a not-so-good night's sleep, Augusta continues work on her large painting. She is very close to levelling up in painting again.

However, her paintings are still selling for next to nothing. I can't wait for her to travel again, and it's going to take ages if we wait for her to earn the simoleons for the ticket by painting.

It will be much faster to go to the main square and see if we can find some expensive wildflowers.

Buying her a bicycle was definitely the right thing to do - she is so happy to be travelling without burning any fossil fuels, she is grinning from ear to ear.

Just as I hoped, there are wildflowers growing in the park. She picks only three expensive ones, to get enough money for the ticket and no more. It seems out of character for an eco friendly sim to pick too many.

There is one more thing I want her to accomplish before travelling: I want her to be acquainted with 25 sims and win the Celebrity skill challenge, which will make befriending other sims so much easier.
The only good thing about last night's annoying burglar visit is that now both the burglar and the police officer are her acquaintances, bringing the number up to 21. She needs for more. Luckily, there is a small crowd outside the movie theatre.

Very soon, the milestone is accomplished and Augusta is free to buy a ticket for beautiful Champs-Les-Sims.

Upon arriving, she immediately accepts the first adventure and goes to visit one of the local merchants.

The merchant sends her on a quest outside the small town, in search of a lost object inside the Celtic Burial Mound.
