Okay guys I am wondering whether anyone can offer me some advice, opinions and/or inspiration because I seem to be short of all of those at the moment :?
Sorry if this post isn't very clear I am quite tired at the moment, basically I am wanting suggestions on how I can improve this library and even examples of luxury libraries others have build as examples if you have any. I am far from a great builder but I really want to make something that I (and anyone else who would be interested) can add to their world :)
Did you use the same lot as the old library? It can mess up your game if you bulldoze your lot before removing the gravestone that EA put there.
It looks good overall, but I think you made it too big. It will be really hard to fill all that up with library stuff. You might want to go only 2 stories, and 2 sets of windows on each wing.
Oh yes I did, I bulldozed the old library and then started building the new one on the lot. What can happen? Thank you also for the feedback, I think your right about it being too big, I wanted it to be quite an imposing building from the outside but I think I may have gone a little overboard

@miklc: What you have built so far looks like it should be in Paris, Rome, or somewhere like that. Barnacle Bay doesn't really have the same "feel" to it. I would suggest if you want luxury, that you go "old" style (like a restored abbey) for the build and then make the interior luxurious. It should be a building that might have been on the island since the very early days, just before or shortly after the pirate era, when people were starting to take notice and settling there. Think of the back story of the island. Maybe an abbey was built then but fell into ruin, or maybe an old castle was abandoned. These could be renovated and turned into a library. Something like that. I'm sure you can imagine other scenarios, too.
Not that you can't do whatever you want in your own world ... you could turn the whole island into those mammoth luxury types of buildings, if you wish. But if you are building for other people to download, then you may want to appeal to a broader base of people, who are already in step with the current pirate theme.
As far as how to make buildings look attractive or have a certain appeal, it is probably best to look at pics of real buildings. You have to prime your imagination with possibilities, and the internet is full of them. Once you see all those pics, you'll have a head full of great ideas, and your own builds will be more to your liking.
amjoie thank you for your feedback it is much appreciated! I agree that the style of building doesn't really fit with a tropical, pirate island like Barnacle Bay I was pretty stuck on what styles of building would actually fit and I knew I wanted to go for something grand so I kind of just went with a whim, you have given me some ideas though, I like the sound of a converted Abbey, if I can achieve it that is. I am also wanting to build a Tudor style Tavern so I think I might leave the library for now and try creating that, then I may continue with this library but place it in another world and start from scratch :)
I can't wait to see what other people create, I am already loving some of the stuff that has already been shared

For the gaps in the building. Delete the roof tiles and replace them (with roof tiles). I found that worked for me. Don't know why it does it but it may take several times to get then all. Also, angle up from your build to see if you have those tiles, that are invisible otherwise to the naked eye except at this angle, and delete. Be careful to click those squares only sometimes they take on a life of their own. Good luck.
Thank you so much for the tip, so do you mean the actual tiles on the roof of the building or as in the tiles above that specific floor. It is so annoying because it completely ruins the effect but never mind at least it can be resolved...hopefully
