A Mini Vacation
Due: Wednesday July 13th, Midnight CMT
Yawning, you thank your lucky stars for the baristas at Flying V’s coffeehouse that manage to keep you supplied with caffeine on those early days when you arrive at the office before Rose does. Typing up the final bills and paperwork on the latest Johnson project is a good feeling, but you know that you are only keeping your head above water as new projects are flooding in all the time. Not a bad problem to have at all, you chuckle to yourself as you print out Kaye’s final bill and place it in an envelope for to Rose to mail.
Leaning back in your chair and feeling quite satisfied with yourself, you hear the sound of a key in the front door and Rose’s cheerful humming. You beat her in the office by just 30 minutes this morning. “My goodness,” you think to yourself for the thousandth time. “Whatever would I do without her?” It doesn’t bear thinking about, and you make a mental note to give her another raise and to seriously look into the profit-sharing structure your accountant mentioned at your last meeting.
At 8 o’ clock on the spot, Rose knocks briskly on your door, and enters with a stack of file folders. “You were here early,” she says with a smile. “Finishing up with Kaye’s latest project?
“Oh, yes,” you respond. She and the entire family were quite pleased with the design.”
“This next project will be something a little different, I think,” Rose says with a hint of mystery as she hands over the first file from her stack. “It’s a family from Sunset Valley, but they’re looking for something out of town.”
“Well, that’s not so unusual,” you remark as you take the file.
“But,” Rose continues, “they’re looking for a vacation home. And not just any home - one that will fit on a 10x10 lot they ‘ve inherited from relatives in their vacation destination.”
You look at Rose a bit skeptically. “A 10x10 lot? Really? That seems terribly small…”
“Well,” Rose confides with a secretive air, “the rumor is that the relatives were big spenders at the Lucky Simolean Casino. No one is totally sure what happened to the family fortune, but a few small lots scattered over various worlds other than Sunset Valley were all that was left when Grandpa Les Pleasant passed a few months ago.
You nod in understanding and begin flipping through the file Rose has compiled on the new clients, Daniel and Mary-Sue Pleasant. “They’ll be here at nine,” she reminds you as she puts the remaining files in your Inbox and exists discretely.
When Rose showed the couple and their twin daughters, Angela and Lilith, in later that morning, you felt sure you had a good understanding of what the family required in a vacation home. Daniel and Mary Sue, a handsome couple, shook your hand warmly and introduced their daughters Angela and Lilith. Although both girls smiled politely at you, out of the corner of your eye, you glimpsed Lilith pulling her sisters ponytail sharply as she slid past into her chair. Angela stared daggers at her sister, but quickly returned her attention to you when her mom began describing the family’s wishes. You chalk the incident up to a little normal sibling rivalry and make a mental note to try to make each girl feel special in the design of the vacation house.
As Rose escorted the Pleasant family out following your meeting, you could already picture the bones of their new get-away in your mind’s eye and couldn’t wait to get started on the design. Although just what to do about those feuding sisters still weighed on your mind...

Challenge Brief
- You must build a vacation home in a world of your choice on a 10 x 10 lot.
- Build should reflect the character of the world you decide to build in as well as the personal traits and preferences of the Pleasant family (NOTE - This does NOT mean you must decorate everything in the family's favorite colors).
- $40,000 budget
- Bedrooms – master suite and separate bedroom for the twins
- Other rooms – fully functional kitchen, full bathroom , living area, and dining area are required
- Number of levels is up to you.
