Well, hopefully I'll be back in business afterall when Pete gets me Windows 7 - and my new harddrive is fine after all - not to use as is, but after a reformat and Pete puts windows 7 on it. He is supposed to be ordering Windows 7 Professional 64 bit from work today ( I highly suspect anyway) so they will deliver it by Wednesday (he hopes) and then reformate during the Thanksgiving week-end (he wants to do it Friday). Right now I am running my small windows 32 bit xp Pro harddrive and did manage to get it all updated and at least Late Night and my sims store stuff on it last night. But that was as far as I got, as suddenly that Harddrive crashed too, and ended up in bed early (for me anyway) as all the tension got the better of me and basically gave me a stomach ache and wore me out I guess.
This morning I got up to find a note from Pete and my pc running. He apparently found a problem with my power supply and the cpu fan on my motherboard was intermittently starting and stopping - when it should not be doing that. Luckily we had another brand new (well a few month old, just never used) power supply apparently in his office, so he swapped out mine for this one, he added back my other 2 gig stick of ram and repaired the fan on the cpu (well I think he repaired it - as it is hard to tell what - the fan is now all set" means, as Pete isn't much for detail. It sort of looks like a shopping list when he leaves a note.) hehehe
He did end the note with " I'll finish up after work when I get home, but you can go ahead and use it and do whatever".
So I assume I can put in the still not installed Fast Lane and perhaps the Winter Wonderland world anyway. I don't want to put SOCL back in here just to have to not be able to play them once he reformats the new harddrive, as that will be 64 bit with Windows 7, and would not at all be compatiable with this one - but if for any reason I need to go back to this one, it will at least have all my Sims stuff installed, updated and store stuff - if nothing else.
Whatever Pete did, it is working and running way cooler according to my sensors from the motherboard. It's also not rumbling anymore - but best of all, it's still running and it's almost noon here. Pete leaves for work by 7 am at the latest, so it's been running at least 5 hours. Yesterday even with this harddrive it only ran about 2 hours and would just shut off. At least it did not scramble the Windows files on this harddrive like it did my new one.
I'm also not sure if there might be some damage done to the CPU - I think not for the fact windows kept telling me it had shut down to prevent damaging the system. Hopefully that meant before the processor could cook.
Pete did say in his note that he saw in the bios the CPU fan was running at "0" speed and that the smart sensor connection was unconnected - which is why I was not getting a reading on it from my sensor program. I thought it was weird that my sensor program was only showing 4 of the six fans in here. I knew one of the case fans was not connected to the sensor, but I did not know what else wasn't showing. Well, now I do. That's the trouble with this sensor program it does not show 0 speed like in the bios if a fan stops, it just will not show any stopped fans period as if they are not there. I tried to tell Pete, but he ignored what I was saying and said all the fans were fine. Heck that was weeks ago, even before the first harddrive broke.
Anyway it's all looking promising, but I won't count my chicks before they hatch. It's too nerve shattering to keep thinking it's fixed and then something else happens.
Naturally Pete being a bit of a Sims hater blamed my troubles on EA and the Sims which totally adds to my upset - and which he did yesterday - but must have felt guilty about it when he got up this morning and I was not up and for him to work on my pc BEFORE work. That's practically unheard of, so I am pretty much assured he is now trying to appease - as nobody attacks my sims games and not feel my wraith - hehehe and I pretty much guarantee when he gets home he will have Windows 7 on it's way and what ever else he found I needed in his hand already.
So one way or the other I suspect all will be back to normal before the week is over. But anyway, that is where we are at and just figured I'd let everyone know so you're not worrying about me. Keep in mind I am much like my SOCL character and love my pc - not so much this week, but generally anyway. :?
