Are Freckles and Beauty Marks Genetic?

Title says it all, does anyone know/have experience with freckles and beauty marks being passed down genetically? Thanks :)

In one of my recent games I have a sim with a beauty spot above her mouth and her toddler son has one in the same spot so it was either inherited or random. But he has his mum's beauty spot.
