It is not possible to switch households and ensure that the sims you were playing will still be in your game when you return to them without leveraging mods (NRaas StoryProgression or Awesome) to protect them from being culled/removed from the game entirely.
In this case though, the sim had died. That's a bit unusual I think, for an already dead sim to be culled from an ongoing world but I'm not quite sure anything can be done if they aren't showing on any of NRaas MasterController's rosters for Resets or Invite Overs.
An entry in a sim's scrapbook or even the family tree or relationship panel could be a small amount of historical data and does not mean the sim is still in this game in any retrievable way.
