I went with "I go ahead and serve them the burned food. They're all starving and one nasty meal won't kill them.". But there are times when I might throw away the burnt food and have my Sims eat a quick meal instead or eat leftovers from the frig or fix something else depending on how I feel and how low their hunger meter is.
