@TreyNutz Darns you! Here I was, sitting back calmly and looking forward to enjoying my new worlds, thinking that I have all the primary ones I wanted (and then some, thanks to this sale...), when sure enough, along comes someone who had to burst my little happiness bubble when I checked this thread today. You just had to go and make me want Lunar Lakes, didn't you?
Seriously though, thank you for input on the world! The problem I've found with YouTube videos is that they either gush over everything (which gets old) or instead focus mainly on price , but that also gets old).
That's part of why I started this thread in the first place (beyond the Origin sale questions, obviously) – to hopefully get input/advice/ideas from the nice people here on how each one can be used not only as a stand-alone world (which is all the reviewers tend to do), but also in conjunction with the game as a whole (e.g. using pieces from one world in others). How it all meshes together is just as – if not more – important than how it works on its own.
I suppose my biggest issue with LL is that I’d be buying it more for the stuff – and, ironically now, the rabbit holes, which is what I complained about earlier, lol – than the world itself. I just can’t really ever see myself playing in it for entire generations or anything, partially due to the size issue you mentioned (though I do like the idea of living up on some of mountains in the world). I really wish it had more of the “Memory” domes (all of the worlds would've been sweet), because those are pretty darn cool-looking. Perhaps I'm wrong though, given that living in that world would force me into building things in an entirely differently way than I normally do (and therefore be a worthy challenge).
I have some of those CaSTable Rabbit Hole replacements, but have only tinkered around with them a little bit. I seem to always have trouble selecting certain parts to re-color (and they almost always start out grey, no matter the actual pattern/color), but that’s probably just something I need to learn and fiddle with more. They’re nothing short of an amazing collection of work by AussomeDays at MTS. He/she (sorry, I don't know which is correct) went above and beyond with those not only by creating them, but also fixing some of EA's goofs while doing so. I don’t get why EA didn’t make them CaSTable to begin with, unless it was just so that they could do it themselves and then place them into the majority of their own worlds, thinking we wouldn’t notice.
Am I understanding correctly that the Lunar Lakes versions come with more RH’s than the other worlds (I think that’s what you’re saying and seems to match the mods’ description, though I don’t know what “Perigee” is on that list). Do you happen to know if the Movie Studio RH is included? AFAIK, there doesn’t seem to be a way to create a smaller version of that one, so if it does that would be a big draw as well.
I haven’t been Into The Future yet, but learning that the RH’s are that large goes along the same lines as the Movie Studio (and portals for futuristic stuff sounds like it would be a great fit). So much stuff, so little space…
I found what I hope are the most current/complete/working set of the RH rugs/doors somewhere awhile back, but have yet to try them. This is partially because I'm not there yet building-wise, but also for the reason you mentioned: From what I understand, they're not exactly true RH's in the traditional sense. I've never actually seem them in action though (YouTube seems completely bereft of videos) and am confused by the instructions I’ve read on how to properly use them (trial and error should solve that, I would think/hope). I agree that having something Sims actually walk into sounds highly preferable.
Thanks as always!
@ciane That's some awesome work! :) Who knew that something from Lunar Lakes could be made to look right at home in Sunlit Tides?
The one thing that throws me off about the LL RH's – though this is true of anything other than the rugs – is that they’re two-story structures, at least according to this thread over at MTS: http://modthesims.info/t/476864. How I wish EA had simply made some tiny RH’s (or just one generic, fully programmable one or something) for us to place and do whatever we wanted with. I’ve seen a lot of people use the “Basement” method, but I could never see myself going that route. What you did is far more elegant!
Of course, like I said to @TreyNutz, all this just makes me want that world more now than I ever thought I would. I just can't afford it at the moment :(. Midnight Hollow (which I desperately hope is worth it) is my next planned purchase (I have just enough SimPoints left after getting the WOW Carousel Collection on DD a few days ago), then I was (one day) thinking of going for Aurora Skies (though honestly the venue interests me as much or more than the world and is thankfully purchasable separately), but now it seems that Lunar Lakes has gotten a substantial bump up on my Wishlist.
Thanks for sharing your work!
Edit: I just noticed the link in your sig to the "Lagless IP" and have a quick question: Is your save file directory more effective than Ellacharmed's world fix? Or is it supposed to be used in conjunction with that? I was hoping her fix was all that was needed, but after reading your thread, it doesn't sound like it. I've yet to play or even try that world due to all the issues I've read about regarding it. I have a pretty high-end PC, so I'm hopeful, but the list(s) of issues I've seen seem to be never-ending. I can't believe that EA would release one world to utilize all the content for that expansion, then leave it forever broken. :( I'm surprised that there was no class-action suit for that one...they had plenty of time to fix it before they abandoned the game (heck, they released a whole 'nother expansion afterward).

*Sigh* All this is seriously tempting me to say "Forget finances and budgeting" and use what little money I have left after my Black Friday extravaganza (I went overboard buying other, mostly techie, things) to buy a semi-large SimPoint bundle and then pray that no unexpected expenses crop up for at least a few months (disability only goes so far, lol). Who needs real food when I can watch my Sims eat for me?
I never in my life imagined that I’d end up spending over $500 (or so, over the years) on a single video game. There were no $5 Expansion Pack sales way back in the day like there are now, so there went $200+ just for the disc-based ones I own. Plus SimPoints (I was forced to go so long without playing that however many SimPoints I had left a long time ago had expired/disappeared when I came back this year), these Origin worlds, sale EP’s/SP’s…
In a way, I'm glad that The Sims 4 didn't interest me. I'd be starting all over and bankrupting myself on that too. I fear that one day EA is just going to start releasing games for cheap, then charging by thehour minute to play them.
Thanks again to everyone for all the input! :)
