I'm interested in the same question, trying to decide between getting Showtime, and Discover University. Really it was getting a pool table that drove me, but my main Sim is a musician and Showtime would make sense. Plus, hubs and I want to be able to have more interplay between his Sims3 game and mine, and the Simport sounds like a great way to do that to some extent.
@Nushnushganay Personally, as much as I love the world and the singer career that came with Showtime, that pack was a bit of a fail for me. The careers don't have much replayability and unfortunately they don't work very well either.
The audience at shows is always max 7-8 sims but most often it's only 1 or 2 sims and no more watching you perform no matter how famous you are. Then there is the "Gig glitch" which made me abandon 3 saves so far. You basically have a gig but it's somehow glitched and you cannot actually perform, yet the gig stays active forever which means you are stuck in that gig and even if you attempt to start a new one it won't let you.
In general University is a meatier and more stable pack so I think you made the right choice.

Also, that bit about CC getting left on my machine from someone else's game gives me the willies. Might not that infamous cursed doll virus be transmitted that way? That might convince me only to do Simport with hubs.
Also about Simport, I found that almost nobody uses it anymore and it's impossible to find performers, especially at higher levels. The CC thing did used to happen, I'm not sure if they fixed it but I wouldn't worry about the cursed doll as she's so old I don't think she's around in people's files anymore.
