It must be very annoying if you don't know about it beforehand. Being a regular on the forums meant I knew about the update being required with the digital versions, so when I reinstalled my sims 3 I used the disc versions instead.
I would ask if you can have a refund if I were you - I guess the outcome will depend on where you purchased them.
I find the whole 'digital ownership' rules to be quite alarming. For instance - with Kindle books, to think that Amazon could withdraw my account if they thought they had reason to do so and I would lose access to all my many purchased books. Not likely, of course, but my purchases should be owned by me in my opinion. I paid for them. And so should our digital games, sims store downloads etc.
Amazon does that ? Oh that would bother me too ! I started to get an account with Kindle on my tab but I felt a hesitation like a suggestion to hold off so I did. So glad I did because I would've bought lots of books !
I feel the same, if we purchased it, we should be able to own it. It's alarming to me too Amazon has that right.
A purchase of a product is a contract between the buyer and the seller and once the seller receives the funds, the contract is finished.
But since its digital everything, the companies now have the rights to our machines, but they shouldn't have the rights to us.
For instance, I found some Origin files suggesting they're keeping track of what we do on our computers.
This shouldn't be because the contract only applies to their software they gave us license to use.
Yes my situation is very annoying to me because I knew the game would then need Origin to run if updated, but I didn't know I couldn't install the 2 stuff packs until I updated the game ! If I had known that was required I wouldn't have purchased them through Origin.
The date of the release of the 2 stuff packs was well before the game update 1.67 came out, and if the 1.67 patch was not required
to install them when they were released, they shouldn't be now is my opinion.
I do have them installed on one computer, so I am weighing my options right now. I'd like to have it installed on my laptop because I use
it most, and that is only 2 computers when EA says we can install on 5.
