I am one of the unusual people who did actually read most of the agreement when I purchased most of my games. As a result, when I purchased Sims 4 base game, I saw Sims 3 disks on sale at greatly reduced prices in local stores I purchased all of the Sims 3 disks I needed to cover the digital download packs I had for Sims 3.
I think the people in the shop thought I was a little bonkers at the time but I said I didn't trust EA to leave Sims 3 alone as they have reserved the right to do what they like to it at any time.
Since I wanted to be able to continue to play the game I had purchased in the manner it was played when I first purchased it, I was prepared to spend a little bit of money then to put my mind at rest.
If I have issues with Origin at some later date I'll remove it from my computer.
At this stage I haven't launched Origin for several months and probably won't launch it again unless I'm off line as I don't want to have unexpected updates forced on me. Especially if those updates change the way I play Sims 3.
I've got several games that require Origin to launch them, including Sims 4. I'm prepared to abandon all of them permanently if that is what I have to do to keep Sims 3 installed in its original format.
It's nice you had the foresight to plan ahead. I did too for a while but while looking through my games, last night noticed there were 2 stuff packs I didn't have & researched them. I learned they were good packs, so I decided to buy them.
Therein lies my downfall. I really didn't do anything wrong. Just got the bright (not so bright) idea to buy 2 stuff packs.
Maybe this happened to me so others can realize it could happen to them; & maybe they will prepare themselves.
I did notice today the games on disk are not easy to find anymore and after thoughtful contemplation, realized EA is steering everyone
toward digital downloads. Sims 4 is already there. So when EA server goes down, people won't be able to play their games. It will affect
Sims 3 players too because when they force people to upgrade Origin, the game won't start without it unless you never upgrade Origin.
If you want to play Sims 4 you have to upgrade Origin. See where its going ?
So its great you planned ahead & hope it gives you many playing hours & enjoyment.
edit: and that's the reason why I have two different Sims games on 2 different computers. One has Origin fully updated
& I was able to install the 2 stuff packs on that of course. But that computer has Origin fully updated because it has Sims 4 on it.
But the main computer I play Sims 3 on, I wasn't able to install them on it, because I wanted to keep Sims 3 game intact & didn't patch it to 1.69.
So now there is division. Where we were always able to have more than one Sims game on one computer now we have
to separate them.
I don't want to be in a position where EA servers goes down & I can't play my game.
