@igazor I was wondering by the way, why did you decide to install the patch and what exactly don't you like about it?
I decided there wasn't enough aggravation in my life and set about finding ways to increase it? :p
A bad decision on my part in that I purchased IP and ITF, my final two EPs, a very long time ago when they were having an Origin sale. IP I installed ages ago, but never got around to ITF, was kind of savoring the addition of that last one. Then Patch 1.69 and its requirements came out and I was kind of stuck. My install is entirely digital, no disks at all, and I was/am not prepared to change that. While Steam was having their incredible sale a few months back, I decided that paying reduced prices for a switchover to all Steam would be my emergency backup plan in case my game was ruined by the new patch and went ahead, slowly and deliberately, with 1.69 so I could finally install ITF.
My ongoing game has been fine. But I did take some steps that players taken by surprise would not have had a chance to. I pulled my game folder out of Documents and updated my core mods ahead of time. Made a spare copy of my graphics card sgr files because I knew the patch would destroy the ones I was using to force recognition of my graphics card. And tested the patch on a clean game folder first before putting my content and saves-heavy one back in.
What I don't like about it:
-- Starting up is a pain in the sim, always being forced to wait for the handoff from Origin to the Launcher and having to use the Launcher to startup at all, every time with no bypasses possible. For a typical game session it's really not so bad, but sometimes mod testing and troubleshooting require many successive game restarts from scratch and those get to be not fun very quickly.
-- Having to check the selected EP/SPs every single time to make sure they have all stayed selected in between game sessions becomes reflex after a while, but it's not exactly fun either.
-- I miss some of the third party game utilities (not mods) that just don't work on 1.69, such as EasyCASP Editor and the more updated versions of Save Cleaner (v1 still works for me, though).
-- I have no need or desire for the "Origin experience" and do not wish to chat or do whatever it is I am supposed to do with my "friends" through Origin. If I wanted an online gaming experience, I would play an online game.
Guess that about covers it. :)
